Candied Sweet Potatoes 2 to 4 servings
This is a basic recipe for candied sweet potatoes that's been around for a long time. You can use all light
brown sugar if you prefer. It creates a darker sauce on the potatoes.
Ingredients
• 2 large sweet potatoes
• ½ cup melted butter
• ½ cup sugar
• ½ cup brown sugar, packed
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• ¼ tsp nutmeg
You will need a buttered baking dish.
Instructions
1. Peel sweet potatoes; cut in half then cut into ¾-inch slices. Place in a saucepan; cover with water; bring to a boil
and cook until tender; drain.
2. Arrange in the buttered baking dish. Combine the remaining ingredients; pour over sweet potatoes in baking dish.
3. Bake at 300°F for about 20 minutes or until bubbly and thick.

Recipes are like stories; they can change from person to person. Everyone has their idea of how a recipe should be, even
though it may have changed from the original. We will never know the true author of the original recipe, regardless of
what some may say. That's why I go back and look through the oldest cookbooks that I can find. Sometimes it's not the
recipe in the books that I find, but the tiny pieces of handwritten recipes and newspaper articles that are stuck within
the pages. That's where the real story is, finding those simple Southern recipes. -Mac
